When the first bottle is empty, the second bottle takes it’s place, while the first then becomes the second and catches the second tray’s overflow. It would take about a week (if I remember correctly) for the chromatograph to overtake the cotton cloth, then it would be hung to dry. The machine would be cleaned, and then filled with a new color of dye with a clean cotton cloth hung up.
